Omdia recognizes Viettel as a rising global core network vendor
Hanoi, October 24, 2025 – Global technology research and advisory firm Omdia has recently recognized Viettel as one of the world’s leading 4G/5G core network providers in its annual report “Market Landscape: Core Vendors – 2025”, alongside the world’s top core network providers.
Viettel is the only new entrant added to the list this year, reflecting its rapid growth and strategic, well-structured investment in core network technologies. Omdia’s evaluation is based on a transparent framework with two key dimensions: Business Performance and Portfolio Breadth & Competitiveness. Based on this assessment, Omdia placed Viettel in the “Upcoming Vendors” group — companies demonstrating strong technological capabilities and expanding their influence in the global mobile core network market. Through its “autonomous – open – intelligent” approach, Viettel has built a complete 5G Core ecosystem, serving both large-scale public mobile networks and enterprise Private 5G deployments.
According to Omdia, mastering the 5G core network is far more strategic than in previous generations, as it enables advanced network functions, creates new revenue models, and, most importantly, supports national digital sovereignty — a top priority for countries worldwide.

Viettel’s development roadmap is clear and validated by real-world milestones. The company began researching 5G core network technologies in 2019. By 2023, the system was ready for trial operation on Viettel’s network. Following the commercial launch of 5G, Viettel’s core network has supported millions of 5G NSA (Non-Standalone) and 5G SA (Standalone) subscribers. This milestone demonstrates the maturity and scalability of Viettel’s technology — two factors that Omdia values highly when assessing “Upcoming Vendors” with potential to advance into the “Major Challengers” category in future reports.
In mastering 5G core technologies, Viettel High Tech has also proven its R&D strength, possessing 4 core technologies, publishing 8 international scientific papers, and filing 1 patent in the United States and 11 patents in Vietnam. Viettel’s research teams are now focusing on advanced areas of 5G core networks that demand rigorous standards, paving the way for new inventions and knowledge creation in the coming period.
Viettel continues to expand research into 6G core technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and autonomous core networks, aiming to position Vietnam as a leading telecommunications technology hub in Asia. Earlier, Gartner — another globally recognized consulting firm — also listed Viettel in its Magic Quadrant for CSP 5G RAN Infrastructure Solutions 2025.
