Viettel High Tech Deploys ITS Camera System in Laos in Partnership with Unitel

Viettel High Tech (VHT) has officially completed the installation of its Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) camera solution in Laos, as part of a strategic collaboration with local telecom operator Unitel.

The ITS camera system was fully deployed on November 19, coinciding with Unitel’s 15th anniversary celebration under the theme “Digital Transformation – Embracing the Future.” The deployment includes four outdoor cameras and one indoor camera installed at Unitel’s headquarters.

As part of the collaboration, Unitel will continue to promote VHT’s ITS camera system across the Lao market. To tailor the technology to local needs, VHT engineers spent 15 days customizing violation detection scenarios and developing license plate recognition capabilities specific to Lao vehicle formats.

The ITS camera system is currently in the process of being integrated into the Smart City Operations Center (IOC), a national initiative led by Viettel Solutions (VTS) in Laos.

In addition to the ITS system, VHT is also supplying other products, including home cameras and IoT devices, contributing to the company’s broader market expansion in Laos.

Since the initial development of the ITS camera, engineers from VHT’s Division 3 have continuously refined the system to deliver a high-speed smart traffic camera capable of adapting to the specific needs of different countries. The camera is the first in its segment to support both 4G/5G connectivity and powerful edge AI processing.

By integrating advanced artificial intelligence and image processing technologies, VHT’s smart camera can accurately capture license plates at speeds of up to 250 km/h, enabling real-time violation detection with no processing delays.

Beyond traffic violation detection, the camera is also designed to function as a smart traffic sensor, collecting and analyzing traffic data such as vehicle flow, type, and speed. This information provides valuable input for traffic regulation and urban mobility management, helping make roadways safer and more efficient for all road users.
