Among the recognized works, the paper titled “Efficient FPGA Architecture for DPDK Flow Rules Processing” was honored with the Outstanding Paper Award. This prestigious award at the International Conference on Advanced Communications Technology (ICACT) is granted to the most exceptional scientific papers presented at the conference.

Sharing the background of their research, the authors explained that while the DPDK packet processing acceleration library provides the rte_flow API for interaction with SmartNICs, there is a lack of documentation and architectural studies on rule processing. Meanwhile, 5G User Plane Function (UPF) products, which serve a large number of end devices and diverse services, require efficient handling of a high volume of flow rules on FPGA. To address this gap, the research team proposed an FPGA architecture that leverages TCAM for high-speed rule lookup, combined with a custom driver optimized for hardware-based rule management. The solution not only enhances UPF offload capabilities but is also applicable to routers, switches, firewalls, and other networking applications.

The paper received an “Excellent Paper” evaluation from the expert review panel.

ICACT is an annual international conference focused on advances in communication technologies. It serves as a forum for researchers, professionals, and scholars to present their work, discuss emerging trends, and exchange knowledge in the field of advanced communications. Common topics include communication networks, wireless systems, cybersecurity, and the application of artificial intelligence in telecommunications.
